Industrial electrification is moving forward rapidly, but not every process can be electrified in the same way. In many industries, high-temperature processes, existing combustion systems and large installed asset bases make direct electrification slow, costly or technically challenging. 

This is why we also need solutions that connect renewable electricity, existing industrial infrastructure and carbon dioxide utilization in a new way. 

At the heart of Reduciner’s technology is a simple but powerful idea: carbon dioxide can be converted into carbon monoxide using electricity and biogenic carbon. In this process, electrical energy is transformed into chemical energy stored in gas. 

Reduciner, a carbon dioxide utilization company originating from VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, is launching the planning of an industrial-scale pilot facility in Ranua, Finland. The investment aims to utilize biogenic carbon dioxide in the production of carbon monoxide and activated carbon, while advancing the technology toward its first industrial applications. 

VTT:ltä lähtöisin oleva, hiilidioksidia hyödyntävä Reduciner aloittaa teollisen mittakaavan pilottilaitoksen suunnittelun Ranualle. Investointi tähtää biogeenisen hiilidioksidin hyödyntämiseen hiilimonoksidin ja aktiivihiilen tuotannossa sekä teknologian viemiseen kohti ensimmäisiä teollisia käyttökohteita. 

Reduciner’s innovative technology addresses one of the most difficult challenges in climate change mitigation: how to turn unavoidable industrial emissions into an asset. For industrial customers, it offers a cost-efficient way to profitably use captured CO₂, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and improve competitiveness in a low-carbon economy. Raising 3.6 million euros in its initial funding round, Reduciner plans to build its first industrial-scale pilot, a 1MW facility in Finland, to begin the commercialisation of its technology.

Reducinerin innovatiivinen teknologia tarjoaa vastauksen yhteen ilmastonmuutoksen hillitsemisen suurimmista haasteista: miten teollisuuden päästöt voidaan kääntää hyödyksi. Ratkaisu tarjoaa kustannustehokkaan tavan hyödyntää talteenotettua hiiltä tuottavasti, vähentää riippuvuutta fossiilisista polttoaineista ja parantaa kilpailukykyä vähähiilisessä taloudessa. Ensimmäisellä rahoituskierroksellaan 3,6 miljoonaa euroa kerännyt Reduciner aloittaa teknologiansa kaupallistamisen rakentamalla Suomeen 1 MW:n teollisen mittakaavan pilottilaitoksen.
